The Republic of San Magnolia. For a long time, this country has been besieged by its neighbor, the Giadian Empire, which created a series of unmanned drones called the Legion. After years of painstaking research, the Republic finally developed autonomous drones of their own, turning the one-sided struggle into a war without casualties—or at least, that’s what the government claims. In truth, there is no such thing as a bloodless war. Beyond the fortified walls protecting the eighty-five Republic territories lies the “nonexistent” Eighty-Sixth Sector. The young men and women of this forsaken land are branded the Eighty-Six and, stripped of their humanity, pilot the “unmanned” weapons into battle… Shinn directs the actions of a detachment of young Eighty-Sixers while on the battlefield. Lena is a “handler” who commands the detachment from the remote rear with the help of special communication. The farewell story of the severe and sad struggle of these two begins!

Tells the story of the two main characters Zero Two (FranXX’s mixed-blooded pilot Kyouryuu) and Hiro (a parasite who has no talent for being FranXX’s pilot). Set against the backdrop of a crisis-ravaged future world, where humanity lives only in a Mistiltein cage. All the people in it do not know what life is like in the outside world. The main reason for this crisis is the destruction brought by a monster species called Kyouryuu. For Zero Two, he has an uncanny knack for controlling a mecha robot named FranXX. But to be able to control it, every pilot must have a partner of the opposite sex. The way it works itself is that men become mecha controllers, and women have to position themselves as steering wheels that connect with the pilot’s mind. Because Zero Two has too much power, every pilot who becomes his partner will always meet death. He also has horns and the carrying of strange traits (the influence of Kyouryuu’s blood), making many people view him as a monster rather than a human. His solitude ends when he meets Hiro, who is a failed parasite because he lacks the talent to be a Franxx pilot.

The discovery of a hypergate on the Moon once allowed the human race to teleport to Mars. Those who chose to settle there unearthed a technology far more advanced than that of their home planet, which they named "Aldnoah." This discovery led to the founding of the Vers Empire of Mars and a declaration of war against the "Terrans," those who stayed behind on Earth. However, a battle on the moon—later called "Heaven's Fall"—caused the hypergate to explode, destroying the moon and leading the two planets to establish an uneasy ceasefire. Their peace was a fragile one, however. Fifteen years later, high school student Inaho Kaizuka witnesses the plotted assassination of the Vers Empire's Princess Asseylum Vers Allusia, who had come to Earth in hopes of repairing the relationship between the empire and its homeland. The ceasefire is shattered, and the Martians declare war on the Terrans once again. In the face of this insurmountable enemy, Inaho and his friends must now fight against the Vers Empire to settle the war once and for all.
